International Affairs

Haapavesi Folk High School provides a wide range of courses and the study programmes  are continuously updated . That is why the forms of the International Cooperation are also developing all the time. Haapavesi Folk High School  seeks to provide the skills and knowledge the students and staff need to live, work and actively participate in a global society. The students learn more and easier when academic knowledge and skills they are expected to learn are filtered through their own experimental and cultural frames of reference.

Cooperation with foreign colleagues, contact with foreign youth groups, short or long-term stays in partner institutions within and also outside Europe require a knowledge of foreign cultures, besides the traditional foreign language skills. Effective global interaction will require that the citizens can communicate cross-culturally and that they understand and value different perspectives and ways of thinking. International cooperation is also an effective way to prevent racism and marginalisation.

The topics of the international projects are always integrated in the curriculum and thus the students are offered also education in a foreign language so that the there is a special emphasis on the vocabulary of  one's own study field. International projects also offer a wider perspective to vocational studies, when the students can go into a topic from a bit different point of view and compare good practices in Finland and abroad.
