A week in the Centre Point of Sweden

Three students of the study programme of Audiovisual Communication had an opportunity to visit  the village Fränsta (in the municipality of Ånge) in the centre point of Sweden in November 2003. At Ålsta Folk High School we had on opportunity to get aquainted with Swedish architecture and culture. We studied a week together with students who had photo journalism as their specialization and made also photographing trips with them.

There are beautiful views in Sweden.

Many forest owners made suddenly fortunes in the early 20th century and the homes they let build then  were real high society houses.

A house in Torpshammar. Many old houses in Sweden have been renovated and are nowadays used e.g. as shops or dwelling houses.

It is a mystery why some of these old housed have remained uninhabited.

During that one and oly week we did not learn that much Swedish, but a lot about the cultural differences between two neighbour countries. For example travelling  was  very hectic, there were much more people and they seemed to be in a hurry all the time. What makes a difference compared with Finland was that in spite of that hurry people were much e politer. The Swedish cuisine was also a bit different: people don't eat rye bread in Sweden, it is not even sold in the shops. The dishes were fattier and a lot of sausage is eaten in our western neighbour country.

We would like to thank Principal Lard Edlund,  Sirkku Heiskanen and Tord Pettersson for our successful visit.
